Pope Benedict the 16th, also known as Joseph Ratzinger,
now 85 years old,
was born in a small town in Germany in
1927 to a policeman's family.
He received his education at a religious school
and was forced to join the Hitler Youth Army
during World War 2,
afterwards defecting,
and he had the opportunity to teach at many universities
from 1959 to 1966
before moving towards the path of religion.
And being selected to be Pope in the year 2005
while at the age of 78,
he is regarded as one of the oldest popes
in history at the time of taking the position.
Throughout the time he held his 7 year position as Catholic leader,
he has had to face scandalous news within the Vatican many times,
including news about many priests in the Vatican
who sexually assaulted children 3 years ago.
