Following discussions
on Monday of Japanese leaders,
Chief Cabinet Secretary of Japan, Mr. Osamu Fujimura
announced a plan to move forward with an agreement
to purchase part of the Senkaku Islands
or what the Chinese call the Diaoyu Islands,
which is in the overlapping area in the East China Sea
where both China and Japan claim ownership.
These islands are near a place
that has abundant sea life
and is believed to have hidden oil reserves.
