Matthew Smith of the group Human Rights Watch
stated that prisons scattered across
the northern area of the Rakhine State allegedly
jailed prisoners without legal proceedings
requiring special focus on these prisons.
A few days ago, Mr. Tun Aung, a Rohingya Muslim, was sentenced by a Myanmar court to 15 years
on charges of causing chaos in the Rakhine State,
from the fact that he distributed photos of Rakhine State violence by email
and had foreign currency in his possession.
But Amnesty International complained that Tun Aung did not receive legislative fairness.
He did not have a lawyer
and did not receive appropriate medical care while he was arrested and imprisoned.
Aside from this, the daughter of Mr. Tun Aung, who works for the United Nations Refugee Agency
remains incarcerated at a prison
in Rangoon as well.
